Workday Plan (tentative):
8:30 – Meet in the parking lot of Kahaluʻu Regional Park, sign volunteer waivers
8:45 – Drive to Waiheʻe site, introductions, site background and moʻolelo
9:00 – Workday and safety briefing, pass out tools and start removing weeds
12:00 – Lunch and pau work!
1:00 to 3:00 – Optional guided hike to Hāmama Falls
What to expect: We will use hand cutting tools to manually remove invasive species from a site to prepare for planting in the Fall. The work area is mostly forested with some exposed areas and a nearby stream. Please be prepared to get dirty on this trip!
All participants must wear long pants and closed toed shoes! *No Shoes No Work!*
What to Pack: Waterbottle, sack lunch and/or snacks, sunscreen, hat, rain jacket, insect repellant, sun glasses and medications
KMWP provides: Tools, gloves, first aid kit, extra water for refills
Please note! There are no bathrooms at the worksite. Participants will need to trek in the bushes or drive to the nearest bathroom at Nuʻuanu Park. Also, there are many bees flying around the area; please make sure you have medication if you are allergic.
